Meath Local Sports Partnership are organising a number of workshops and events in the the coming weeks, including SAY, a Yoga and Athlethics programme for children with special needs and their siblings, and a talent ID day for the Irish Paratriathlethic team. Concussion in Sport Awareness WorkshopThe next workshop in our 2017 Club Development Series is Concussion in Sport Awareness on Monday 13th March at 7.30pm in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan. The content has been designed to educate coaches, parents, players and referees OF ALL SPORTS on the dangers of concussion and how to recognise it. The workshop will include modules relating to Concussion Recognition Management and Return to Play protocols followed by a Question and Answer session. WORKSHOP PRESENTER | SHANE MOONEY Shane is responsible for all IRFU medical training and education and is the programme manager for Safe Rugby. His background is pre hospital emergency medicine with over 24 years experience in providing frontline care, training and development. Child Protection WorkshopsSafeguarding 2 Club Children’s Officer (CCO) Training is taking place on Thursday 4th May, 6.30pm-9.30pm in Windtown Unity Centre, Navan. Every club involved with children and young people should appoint a Club Children’s Officer. They act as the link between the children and the adults in the club and also take responsibility for monitoring and reporting to the Club Management Committee. It is essential that those who wish to attend this training have attended the Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness in Child Protection Workshop. Safeguarding 3 Designated Liaison Person Workshop is taking place on Wednesday 31st May, 6.30pm-9.30pm in Windtown Unity Centre, Navan. Every club/organisation should designate a person to be responsible for dealing with any concerns about the protection of children. The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions of child abuse to TUSLA Child and Family Agency and/or An Garda Siochána. It is recommended that this person is a senior club person. Cost: €20 per person for clubs in Meath, €30 per person for clubs outside Meath. Please call Meath LSP office on 046-9067337 to check availability of spaces or click here for more information. “SAY”- Special Athletics and Yoga programmeSpecial Athletics and Yoga programme will commence on Monday 6th March at 4-5pm for 7-12 yr olds and 5-6pm for 13 yrs + in Dunboyne Athletics Club. The cost is €52 for 4 weeks. This programme is aimed at children with special needs and their siblings and provides a unique opportunity for them to increase their fitness and well being, improve their concentration and decrease symptoms of anxiety. We have 2 very experienced tutors delivering the programme which involves 30 minutes of athletics followed by 30 minutes of yoga.
